We’ll begin the day with an early transfer to the Lima airport for our flight to Cusco, landing in the heart of the Andes. Upon arrival, we’ll head to our hotel, giving us time to settle in and begin adjusting to the high altitude.
After lunch, our first visit is to Coricancha, the legendary Temple of the Sun. Though much of its original structure was replaced by colonial architecture, sections of the original stonework remain—precisely cut and flawlessly fitted without mortar, leaving no space for even a strand of hair between the massive blocks. The origins of this extraordinary construction remain a mystery, with theories ranging from advanced ancient engineering to lost civilizations.
Next, we’ll explore the Inca Museum, home to a fascinating array of artifacts including finely crafted pottery, intricate textiles, and a collection of strange, elongated skulls. These peculiar specimens, along with other relics, offer a glimpse into ancient cultures whose histories and capabilities are still subjects of debate and intrigue.
We’ll finish the day with a walking tour of Cusco’s historic center, winding through its narrow cobblestone streets and lively plazas. Here, colonial buildings stand atop far older foundations, offering a vivid contrast between two vastly different eras layered within the same cityscape.
Located on the main avenue of the city and only one block from the famous Qoricancha temple, Hotel San Agustin Dorado is a great hotel with an exceptional attention to detail.
Today we will visit some lesser-known and mysterious constructions found in the Peruvian highlands outside Cusco. We will have the chance to visit the following sites:
Maukallacta
Maukallacta, meaning “Ancient Town” in Quechua, is an enigmatic site in the highlands of the Cusco region. The site features finely constructed stone structures, ceremonial plazas, and terraces that hint at advanced engineering techniques. Some believe it was a center for spiritual rituals, possibly dedicated to Viracocha, the great creator deity. Its strategic location offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, adding to its aura of mystery.
Puma Orqo
Puma Orqo, or “Puma Mountain,” is a fascinating site near Cusco with significant symbolic and energetic importance. Its name suggests a connection to the sacred puma, a key figure in Andean cosmology. The site contains large, precisely carved stones and rock formations that some researchers believe depict pumas or other sacred figures. Many theorists suggest that Puma Orqo, like other megalithic sites in the region, was built by an ancient advanced civilization. Its alignment with celestial events and the possibility of lost knowledge encoded in its construction make it a compelling location for those exploring the mysteries of prehistory.

Featuring carved rock formations and underground passageways, this enigmatic site holds deep cultural significance. While the purpose and origins of Qenqo are debated, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the mysterious past of the region.
Next, visit the imposing ruins of Sacsayhuamán, a massive complex known for its remarkable stonework, with some stones weighing over 100 tons. The precision with which these enormous blocks were cut and fitted together continues to spark curiosity and debate about the advanced techniques used to construct this site. Regardless of how and when it was built, the grandeur of Sacsayhuamán is undeniable.
After a day of exploring these awe-inspiring sites, return to your hotel to relax and reflect on the day’s discoveries.

Following a restful morning, we’ll embark on a journey to two captivating destinations: Ñaupa Iglesia and Ollantaytambo, both offering intriguing insights into the world of ancient architectural wonders.
Our first stop is Ñaupa Iglesia, a site of profound mystery nestled at the mouth of a cave within the rugged Andean landscape. Here, we’ll encounter meticulous craftwork etched into colossal stones—an enduring testament to a civilization from a distant past. As we explore these megalithic wonders, we’ll be struck by the precision and craftsmanship that defy conventional explanation. The purpose and origin of Ñaupa Iglesia remain unknown, but the spiritual energy of the place is unmistakable, inviting us to reflect on its enigmatic legacy.
Continuing on, we arrive at Ollantaytambo, a town where ancient engineering and living tradition merge seamlessly. Towering stone terraces, intricately carved walls, and an advanced urban layout all speak to the ingenuity of its builders. As we walk through this extraordinary site, we’ll marvel at the enormous blocks of stone fitted together with such skill that not even a hair could slip between them.
From Ollantaytambo, we’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, we’ll check in to our hotel and take a moment to settle in. In the evening, we’ll come together for a celebratory farewell dinner—an opportunity to share reflections, laughter, and a toast to the unforgettable journey we’ve shared together before the culmination of our journey at Machu Picchu tomorrow.

Today, we’ll venture into the heart of one of the world’s most awe-inspiring archaeological wonders—Machu Picchu. Nestled high in the cloud forest and veiled in mist, this ancient citadel invites us to step back in time. With our entry, we’ll follow two distinct circuits (depending on availability), allowing us to explore a greater portion of the site. These carefully designed routes reveal the incredible architectural ingenuity, sacred temples, agricultural terraces, and commanding views that have captivated visitors and scholars alike.
For those seeking an extra challenge, there’s an optional hike to Huayna Picchu, the towering peak that rises dramatically behind Machu Picchu. This strenuous climb winds up steep, narrow paths carved into the mountainside, ultimately rewarding hikers with panoramic vistas and access to remote structures hidden on the summit. Due to its difficulty and exposure, this hike is recommended only for experienced hikers with a strong sense of balance and no fear of heights. If interested, be sure to select “Extra Hikes” when booking your tour, as permits are limited.
After a day filled with exploration and wonder, we’ll board the afternoon train for our return to Cusco. Upon arrival, we’ll gather one last time for a farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable journey we’ve shared through the ancient lands and living cultures of Peru.

Those of you who are completing your journey here will fly to Lima to connect with your flights home, while those of you joining us for our optional Easter Island Extension (see itinerary below) will fly to Santiago to begin the next phase of our trip.
Today we’ll check out of our hotel in Cusco and catch a flight to Santiago, Chile. We’ll arrive in the afternoon and head to our hotel near the city center to get settled. The rest of the day is ours to enjoy—whether we choose to explore the surrounding neighborhoods, relax at a local café, try Chilean cuisine at a nearby restaurant, or take in a bit of the city’s vibrant atmosphere at our own pace.

Located in the heart of the upscale El Bosque neighborhood, the hotel provides easy access to shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travelers.
Today, we’ll take a flight to Easter Island, one of the most remote and enigmatic places on the planet. Upon arrival, we’ll check in to our hotel, where local guides will greet you and help you settle in. In the afternoon, begin your exploration with a visit to Ahu Akivi, a restored platform featuring seven standing Moai that face the ocean—a rare orientation that continues to intrigue researchers and visitors alike. From there, we’ll continue to the lesser-visited site of Ahu Hanga Poukura, an unrestored location where toppled statues and scattered stones remain untouched, preserving an atmosphere of mystery and reverence.
Next, we’ll head to Puna Pau, the quarry of reddish scoria stone where the iconic topknots, or Pukaos, were crafted. This site offers a unique perspective on the scale and complexity of the statue construction process. We’ll finish the day at Tahai, a ceremonial complex that includes three separate Ahu platforms, partially restored statues, and remnants of ancient boat ramps and boathouses. One of the statues here is especially striking—it’s the only one on the island whose eyes have been reassembled, giving it a presence that feels uniquely alive. The day offers a powerful introduction to the island’s enduring mysteries.
Located right in the heart of the action, this small and quaint hotel is just minutes away from the ocean, the cave paintings of Ana Kai Tanata, and close to the downtown.
This morning, we’ll set out along the southern coast of the island to visit several powerful and unrestored sites. At Ahu Vaihu, near the bay of Hanga Te’e, we’ll encounter fallen Moai scattered across the ground, their presence silent yet deeply moving. We’ll continue on to Akahanga, a sprawling ceremonial area long associated with the legendary King Hotu Matua. From there, we make our way to Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry where nearly 900 Moai were carved. With hundreds still lying or standing along the slopes, this site offers an unforgettable window into the ancient world—one filled with enduring mystery and unanswered questions.
Our next stop is Ahu Tongariki, the island’s most impressive restoration, where fifteen monumental Moai have been re-erected facing inland, as if keeping watch. We’ll then drive to the east coast to visit Ahu Te Pito Kura, home to the largest Moai ever transported and placed upright. Nearby, we’ll pause at a revered spherical stone known as the “Navel of the World,” a site long believed to hold a special energetic significance. We’ll end the day at beautiful Anakena Beach, where restored Moai stand beside white sands and swaying palms. Here, we’ll have time to unwind and enjoy a swim in the warm Pacific before returning to our hotel.

We’ll begin the day with a scenic drive up the flanks of Rano Kau, one of Easter Island’s extinct volcanic craters. As we ascend, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of the coastline and the vast Pacific beyond. At the summit, we’ll pause to take in the dramatic sight of the crater lake—its still waters nestled within steep, lush walls, forming a world within a world. Nearby lies the ceremonial village of Orongo, once the center of the island’s birdman ritual. Here, carved petroglyphs etched into the stone speak to a time when islanders sought divine favor through daring feats, and the view of the offshore islets—Motu Nui, Motu Iti, and Motu Kao Kao—is nothing short of breathtaking.
Later, we’ll descend to the intriguing site of Ahu Vinapu, an unrestored platform that has sparked curiosity for its precisely cut stones and alignment—features that some believe mirror construction styles found far across the sea in Peru. As the sun begins to set, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner to remember. Experience a traditional umu, a feast slow-cooked in an underground oven using hot stones, celebrating the island’s culinary heritage. The night will come alive with the rhythms of a spirited Rapa Nui dance performance, offering a final, joyful glimpse into the island’s enduring cultural legacy.

Today we’ll say goodbye to the extraordinary landscapes of Easter Island as we board our flight back to Santiago, reconnecting with the mainland and continuing our journey. Though we leave behind the powerful cultural encounters, mysterious monuments, and raw Pacific beauty of the island, its lasting impression will stay with us.
