Upon your arrival at Cusco’s airport, one of our representatives will be there to welcome you and assist with your transfer to your hotel. After checking in, you’ll have the rest of the day free to relax and acclimatize to the altitude. We recommend taking it easy and allowing your body to adjust to the higher elevation.

Cusco is a city brimming with history and charm, and it’s a great place to explore at your own pace. Take a leisurely walk through the Plaza de Armas, visit the impressive Sacsayhuamán, or wander through the cobbled streets of the San Blas neighborhood, where you can enjoy local art, culture, and incredible views of the surrounding mountains. If you’re feeling up to it, stop by one of the many excellent restaurants or cafes to sample some Peruvian specialties, or our team can provide restaurant recommendations and help with securing reservations.

Our team will pick you up from your hotel in the morning or afternoon to begin your half-day tour of the city of Cusco. Known as the archaeological capital of the Americas, Cusco is the oldest city in the Western Hemisphere and was once the heart of the Incan Empire during the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, the city showcases a unique blend of ancient pre-Inca and Inca architecture with Spanish colonial influences, offering a fascinating journey through history. On this tour, we will visit some of the city’s most remarkable sites, where you’ll have the chance to appreciate its extraordinary cultural heritage.

Our first stop will be the Cusco Cathedral, the city’s main temple, located on the Plaza de Armas. Here, you’ll admire its impressive architecture and view several masterpieces from the Cusco School of art. Next, we’ll head to Qoricancha, the Temple of the Sun, once the most important Inca temple, dedicated to the sun god Inti. On top of this sacred site, the Santo Domingo Convent was built, yet much of the original Inca stonework remains intact. We’ll then visit Sacsayhuaman, the ceremonial fortress with megalithic stone walls, offering a panoramic view of the city of Cusco. Our next stops will be Q’enqo, a mysterious site with underground passageways, Puca Pucara, a fortress showcasing Inca military architecture, and finally, Tambomachay, a stunning site featuring aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls, highlighting the Inca’s mastery of water manipulation. After exploring these incredible sites, we’ll return to your hotel, where you’ll have the rest of the day free to relax or explore.

Our day begins with a journey through the Sacred Valley, once the heart of the Incan Empire. This fertile region has served as an important agricultural center for thousands of years, with its ruins stretching from Pisac to Ollantaytambo before reaching Chinchero.

Our first stop is Pisac, an important Inca site known for its extensive agricultural terraces and strategic location as the southern gateway to the valley. After exploring the ruins, we’ll visit the town’s artisan market before continuing to Ollantaytambo, an Inca fortress that guarded the northern entrance of the valley. As we climb its terraces and walk through its narrow streets, we’ll gain insight into its military, religious, and agricultural significance.

Finally, we head to Chinchero, a traditional Andean village home to the Royal Hacienda Ruins of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. Here, we’ll see a well-preserved Inca wall in the main square and visit the colonial church built atop Inca foundations. After taking in the beauty and history of Chinchero, we return to Cusco.

Your journey begins with an early departure from Cusco as you travel through stunning mountain scenery to the Soraypampa region. From here, embark on a scenic hike to Humantay Lake, a glacial lagoon famed for its striking turquoise color and breathtaking location at the base of snow-capped peaks. The trail is invigorating, offering panoramic views and a chance to acclimate to the altitude before continuing your journey.

After visiting the lake, head down to Soraypampa, your first campsite. Nestled in a peaceful valley with views of the high Andes, this remote spot offers a tranquil place to rest under the stars. Surrounded by dramatic landscapes and crisp mountain air, it’s the perfect setting to connect with nature and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Hotel:
Soraypampa Mountain Cabins

Located at over 3,800 meters above sea level, our mountain cabins offer a comfortable and sheltered place to rest on the first night of the Salkantay Trek. Each solid cabin is shared by two trekkers and provides protection from the cold mountain air, allowing for a peaceful night’s sleep in the high Andes. The cabins are just a short walk from the trail to Humantay Lake, making it easy to explore one of the trek’s most iconic spots. With quiet surroundings and breathtaking views, this site combines rustic charm with practical comfort for a memorable start to your journey.

Fuel up with breakfast before beginning the steep and rewarding ascent to the highest point of the trek: Salkantay Pass at 4,700 meters. This challenging climb is a true highlight, with the towering Salkantay Mountain rising above in all its majesty. Reaching the pass, you’ll be treated to unforgettable views across glaciated peaks and rugged valleys—an incredible accomplishment.

From there, begin the descent into the cloud forest, where the landscape shifts dramatically. The air becomes warmer, the vegetation denser, and wildlife more abundant. Arrive at Colpapampa, set in a lush green valley, where you’ll rest after a long and exhilarating day of trekking across one of Peru’s most iconic landscapes.

Hotel:
Colpapampa Eco Domes

Nestled in the lush cloud forest at Colpapampa, this unique dome camp provides an immersive experience in nature without sacrificing comfort. The geodesic domes are shared by two trekkers and built with sturdy materials to keep you warm and dry while surrounded by jungle scenery and the sounds of the nearby river. The camp offers a tranquil and scenic place to unwind after your second day of trekking. With its remote location and distinctive design, ouy eco domes are a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation in the heart of the Andean highlands.

Today begins with a walk through the Santa Teresa Valley, a region known for its tropical climate and rich agricultural traditions. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a hands-on coffee tour where you’ll learn about the growing, harvesting, and roasting processes of some of Peru’s finest beans. It’s a great way to engage with the local culture and enjoy a freshly brewed cup.

Afterward, continue toward the hydroelectric station, where you’ll follow the train tracks through lush jungle terrain on the way to Aguas Calientes. This scenic walk is a peaceful end to the trekking portion of the journey, with the promise of Machu Picchu just ahead. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, check in to your accommodation and enjoy a restful night in preparation for the big day.

Rise early for a bus ride up to Machu Picchu, the crown jewel of the Inca Empire. With your guide, explore the remarkable ruins, walking through its terraces, temples, and sacred spaces while learning about the site’s historical and cultural significance. The morning light over the citadel and surrounding peaks makes for a magical experience.

After your visit, descend back to Aguas Calientes for some time to relax or grab a meal before catching the train and bus back to Cusco. As you return, reflect on the past four days of natural wonders, personal achievement, and deep cultural immersion—an unforgettable Andean adventure.

As your adventure in Peru comes to a close, we’ll ensure your departure is smooth and stress-free. One of our representatives will meet you at your hotel at the designated time and escort you to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. Once there, you’ll have ample time to check in for your flight and prepare for your journey home or onward.

We hope that your time in Cusco has been filled with unforgettable experiences. As you bid farewell to the Inca imperial capital, we wish you safe travels and look forward to welcoming you back for another adventure in the future.
