We’ll start our day with an early departure to Paracas, a charming coastal town renowned for its dramatic landscapes and rich natural diversity. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our accommodation, where we’ll enjoy modern amenities and a convenient location near the ocean. After settling in, we’ll embark on a boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands, known for their massive colonies of sea lions, penguins, and seabirds. On the way out, we will cruise past the enigmatic Candelabro, a massive, ancient geoglyph carved directly into the desert cliffs, whose true origins and purpose remain a total mystery.

In the afternoon, we’ll venture into the Paracas National Reserve, an awe-inspiring natural sanctuary where desert meets sea. As we explore, we’ll encounter breathtaking cliffs, pristine beaches, and a variety of wildlife, including sea lions and countless seabirds. The striking red sands and vivid blue waters offer perfect contrasts for photography and scenic walks. Finally, we’ll return to our hotel in the late afternoon, where you can enjoy a relaxing evening by the coast and prepare for the next phase of our journey.

We begin the morning with a short drive into Ica for a major highlight of the trip: a visit to the private Javier Cabrera Museum. Here, we will get a firsthand look at the mysterious Ica Stones—thousands of deeply aged, engraved rocks depicting advanced technology, ancient maps, and unexplained anomalies that challenge mainstream history. Following this, we will visit a specialized collection to examine the fascinating and controversial tridactyl (three-fingered) mummies, exploring the mystery, ongoing research, and physical evidence surrounding these unusual specimens.

Afterward, we will head over to the picturesque Huacachina Oasis, a natural lagoon hidden inside towering desert sand dunes. Before departing the area, we will stop at a small private museum in Huacachina to view its intriguing archaeological collection of regional artifacts including some fascinating elongated skulls. Late in the afternoon, we will continue our drive to Nazca and check into our hotel for a relaxing evening.

We begin the morning with an overland desert journey to Cahuachi, one of the largest ancient ceremonial earthwork complexes in the Americas. Spanning over 300 acres overlooking the Nazca Valley, this massive pilgrimage site is dominated by the Great Pyramid and a network of stepped adobe platforms built directly onto modified natural hills. As we explore the unburied plazas and mounds, we will analyze the scale of this earthen geo-engineering, inspect the unique mud-brick construction techniques, and examine how the complex served as a primary terminal point for the surrounding desert geoglyph lines.

After returning to town for lunch, we spend the afternoon examining the precision stone masonry of the Cantalloc Aqueducts (puquios). From above, you will get an unobstructed bird’s-eye view of classic Nazca geoglyphs—such as the Hummingbird, the Monkey, and the enigmatic “Astronaut”—before continuing toward the Palpa hillside carvings to examine mysterious human figures and geometric layouts. Flying over both regions gives us a complete view of the sheer scale, evolution, and mathematical precision of these ancient desert alignments.

After landing we will head to enjoy a delicious regional lunch before we begin our return drive north along the desert coast toward Lima. En route we will stop at the renowned Ica Regional Museum where we will explore its extensive archaeological collection, with a central focus on the bio-archaeology hall to inspect its world-famous display of elongated skulls—including some of the largest, most extreme cranial specimens ever uncovered. Examining these physical anomalies up close offers incredible insight into the mysteries of the ancient desert coast.

Following our museum visit, we complete our journey back to Lima. Please note that this day coincides with Day 1 of the main tour; while pre-tour guests return from Nazca to Lima the rest of our main tour guests will be arriving and checking in throughout the day. Next, we’ll explore the Inca Museum, home to a fascinating array of artifacts including finely crafted pottery, intricate textiles, and a collection of strange, elongated skulls. The crown jewel of our visit is the elevated Intihuatana sector, home to a masterfully carved granite monolith used by ancient priests to track solar movements and solstices. Upon arriving in Quillabamba, known for its warm climate and coffee plantations, we will check into our accommodations to relax, unwind, and prepare for the next chapter of our expedition.

We leave Quillabamba early and head deep into the remote Vilcabamba region to explore Vitcos, the rugged mountaintop palace that served as one of the final strongholds of the Inca resistance. Just below the citadel, we will investigate Yurac Rumi (the Great White Rock), a massive, intricately carved granite monolith hidden by the jungle. This sacred shrine features razor-sharp geometric cuts and platforms carved right into the living stone—an exceptional display of megalithic craftwork that challenges mainstream explanations and hints at a much older, highly advanced engineering presence.

Following our exploration, we will drive through the lush high-jungle terrain to the Hidroeléctrica station. From there, we’ll board the local train for a scenic ride following the Urubamba River straight into Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. After checking into our hotel, the rest of the day is entirely yours to unwind, visit the local hot springs, and relax as we prepare for our grand entrance into the world’s most famous ancient citadel tomorrow.

Today, we’ll venture into the heart of one of the world’s most awe-inspiring archaeological wonders—Machu Picchu. Nestled high in the cloud forest and veiled in mist, this ancient citadel invites us to step back in time. With our entry, we’ll follow two distinct circuits (depending on availability), allowing us to explore a greater portion of the site. These carefully designed routes reveal the incredible architectural ingenuity, sacred temples, agricultural terraces, and commanding views that have captivated visitors and scholars alike.

For those seeking an extra challenge, there’s an optional hike to Huayna Picchu, the towering peak that rises dramatically behind Machu Picchu. This strenuous climb winds up steep, narrow paths carved into the mountainside, ultimately rewarding hikers with panoramic vistas and access to remote structures hidden on the summit. Due to its difficulty and exposure, this hike is recommended only for experienced hikers with a strong sense of balance and no fear of heights. After a day filled with exploration and wonder, we’ll board the afternoon train for our return to Cusco. Upon arrival, we’ll gather one last time for a farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable journey we’ve shared through the ancient lands and living cultures of Peru.

Today, our main Peruvian expedition comes to a close. For those heading home today, we will book your domestic flight from Cusco to Lima based on whatever is most convenient for your international flight. The only requirement is that you must book your international flight home after 11:00 AM so you have enough time to fly to Lima and catch your connection.

For those continuing on the optional Easter Island Extension, you will board your flight from Cusco to Santiago, Chile today to check into the hotel and get ready for Rapa Nui. Note that this day coincides with day 1 of the Extension (see itinerary below).

Today, we’ll take a flight to Easter Island, one of the most remote and enigmatic places on the planet. Upon arrival, we’ll check in to our hotel, where local guides will greet you and help you settle in. In the afternoon, begin your exploration with a visit to Ahu Akivi, a restored platform featuring seven standing Moai that face the ocean—a rare orientation that continues to intrigue researchers and visitors alike. From there, we’ll continue to the lesser-visited site of Ahu Hanga Poukura, an unrestored location where toppled statues and scattered stones remain untouched, preserving an atmosphere of mystery and reverence.

Next, we’ll head to Puna Pau, the quarry of reddish scoria stone where the iconic topknots, or Pukaos, were crafted. This site offers a unique perspective on the scale and complexity of the statue construction process. We’ll finish the day at Tahai, a ceremonial complex that includes three separate Ahu platforms, partially restored statues, and remnants of ancient boat ramps and boathouses. One of the statues here is especially striking—it’s the only one on the island whose eyes have been reassembled, giving it a presence that feels uniquely alive. The day offers a powerful introduction to the island’s enduring mysteries.

This morning, we’ll set out along the southern coast of the island to visit several powerful and unrestored sites. At Ahu Vaihu, near the bay of Hanga Te’e, we’ll encounter fallen Moai scattered across the ground, their presence silent yet deeply moving. We’ll continue on to Akahanga, a sprawling ceremonial area long associated with the legendary King Hotu Matua. From there, we make our way to Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry where nearly 900 Moai were carved.
