After breakfast, the journey continues by road to the port town of Atalaya (490 m / 1,607 ft), where a short and scenic boat ride down the river brings you to Paititi Lodge. Nestled within the lush rainforest, this comfortable lodge features private facilities and serves as your base for the night. During the boat ride, there’s a good chance of spotting a variety of bird species and other wildlife along the riverbanks. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared lunch before setting out for an afternoon excursion.
Later in the day, visit Cocha Machuwasi, a small oxbow lake surrounded by rich jungle vegetation. From here, you’ll board a traditional catamaran to explore the calm waters, keeping an eye out for monkeys, reptiles, vibrant birdlife, and with some luck, the elusive capybara—the world’s largest rodent. As evening falls, there’s an optional night walk into the surrounding forest, offering a chance to discover the sights and sounds of the rainforest after dark. The day concludes back at the lodge, where you’ll fall asleep to the ambient chorus of the Amazon.
