Your journey begins with a scenic train ride along the Urubamba River to KM 104, where the 12 km trek starts through stunning Andean landscapes. After checking in at the Inca Trail checkpoint, your guide will lead you to Chachabamba (2,270 m / 7,448 ft), an important Inca ceremonial site, before starting a steady 3-hour ascent on the original Inca stone steps. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the Urubamba River and learn about the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Your next stop is Wiñay Wayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft), one of the most spectacular Inca archaeological sites, known for its terraced farming platforms, ritual water fountains, and sacred temples. After a guided tour, enjoy your box lunch amidst the beauty of the surrounding nature. Continue with a gentle yet thrilling hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate, 2,720 m), where sweeping views of Machu Picchu await. After taking in the scenery and snapping photos, descend for about an hour to reach the iconic citadel (2,430 m).
Once inside the citadel, your guide will take you on a 1-hour tour through its most iconic sites, including temples, terraces and palaces. You’ll have time to appreciate its intricate architecture and spiritual energy. After your visit, take the bus to Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,693 ft) for a relaxing dinner. Board the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private transfer to Cusco, arriving at night.
