A short and less-traveled route that offers stunning views of the Sacred Valley, visits to ancient Inca sites, and an immersive experience in Andean culture before reaching the legendary ruins.
This trek is ideal for those who want to explore a truly off-the-beaten-track archaeological site surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. The Huchuy Qosqo trek allows you to camp in an area that is seldom seen by tourists. Huchuy Qosqo (“Little Cusco” in the Quechua language ) is situated above the Urubamba Valley and offers spectacular views over the Cordillera de Vilcanota mountain range. This trek is also a great way for you to enjoy a shorter trek that still includes Machu Picchu some real Inca trails (with Inca stairs that are even more impressive than those on the Inca Trail). You will have one night of camping in the wilderness and one night at a hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes.

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and transferred by private vehicle to the village of Patabamba (3,800 meters / 12,467 feet), where our team and pack mules will be waiting. From here, the trek begins with a gradual ascent through wide open valleys toward a high mountain pass at 4,200 meters (13,779 feet). Along the way, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Cordillera de Vilcanota, peaceful Andean lakes, and the untouched beauty of the highlands. After lunch on the trail, the route continues past several Inca archaeological remains and original Inca staircases, some even more impressive than those found on the classic Inca Trail.
By late afternoon, we arrive at the secluded site of Huchuy Qosqo, perched above the Sacred Valley with stunning panoramic views. Our crew will set up camp right beside the ruins, giving you time to explore this ancient ceremonial center in peace—an experience few travelers get to enjoy. Dinner will be served at camp, and you’ll spend the night sleeping under the stars in this extraordinary historical setting.
After exploring the remarkable Huchuy Qosqo archaeological complex with your guide, we’ll continue our scenic hike through the Andean highlands toward the traditional town of Chinchero. Along the way, take time to soak in the breathtaking mountain vistas and the quiet beauty of the countryside. We expect to arrive around midday, just in time for a special cultural experience. In Chinchero, we’ll visit a local home where you’ll witness a traditional Andean weaving demonstration, learning about the natural dyes and ancestral techniques still practiced today.
Following this visit, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch before continuing our journey. In the afternoon, our private transport will pick us up and drive us to Ollantaytambo, where we’ll board the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, you’ll check into our hotel, and the evening will be yours to relax and unwind at your own pace.
On the final day of the trek, we’ll wake early to have breakfast and catch one of the first buses up the mountain to Machu Picchu, the legendary Inca citadel nestled high in the cloud forest. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a comprehensive tour, sharing insights into the site’s most iconic temples, plazas, and terraces, as well as the sophisticated engineering that still baffles experts today. With the soft morning light illuminating the ancient stonework, it’s a magical time to experience the grandeur and mystery of this World Wonder.
After the guided visit, we’ll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time to enjoy a final lunch in town before boarding your return train. When you arrive at the station, our private driver will be waiting to pick you up and bring you back to your hotel—marking the end of an unforgettable three-day journey through the heart of the Andes.
