What's on the Menu?

• Peru is home to over 3,000 varieties of potatoes and plenty of comfort-food staples like rice, grilled chicken, pasta, and soups.

• Fresh juices, tropical fruits —think mango, papaya, passionfruit, bananas, and lucuma (a local favorite with a maple-like flavor!).

• Most restaurants offer kids' portions or can adjust spice levels.

Let us know about any allergies, dietary restrictions, or preferences — vegetarian, gluten-free, and more.

Potty Stop Info

Let’s be real: when you’re trekking with kids, bathroom breaks aren’t optional — they’re an adventure of their own.

• On day tours, we stop at clean, reliable restrooms (usually at restaurants or visitor centers).

• On treks, things get a bit more rustic — but we come prepared.

In remote areas, we use eco-friendly options and follow strict Leave No Trace practices.

Our guides know all the best places for a scenic — and private — break.

Fun Facts!

Discover surprising and fun facts about llamas, Inca legends, jungle creatures, and more! These bite-sized facts are perfect for kids (and parents!) who love to learn as they explore.

Llamas & Alpacas

• Alpacas come in more than 20 natural colors — that's more than any other fiber-producing animal in the world!”

• Llamas have three stomach compartments — that’s some serious digestion power!

• If a llama feels threatened, it might spit — but they usually save it for other llamas, not humans!

• Alpacas don’t like to be alone — they always need at least one friend!

Vicuñas & Guanacos (the llama's wild cousins)

• Vicuñas produce some of the most expensive wool in the world — and they can only be sheared once every 3 years!

• Unlike llamas, vicuñas are wild and protected — it’s illegal to keep them as pets!

• Vicuñas can run up to 50 km/h to escape predators — that’s faster than most cars in city traffic!

The Andean condor

• The Andean condor has a wingspan of up to 3 meters — one of the largest of any flying bird!

• They can glide for hours without flapping their wings — talk about efficient flying!

• Condors are part of the vulture family, which means they help clean up nature by eating what's already dead.

Andes Mountains & Nature

• The Andes are the longest continental mountain range in the world — over 7,000 km long!

• Machu Picchu was built without wheels or iron tools — and it’s been standing for over 500 years!

• Some frogs that live near Lake Titicaca can breathe through their skin underwater!

Inca Ingenuity

• The Incas didn’t have a written language — they used knots on ropes called quipus to record information!

• Inca engineers built earthquake-resistant walls by fitting stones together like puzzle pieces — no cement needed!

• The Incas didn’t have horses or cars — messengers called chasquis ran really fast across the empire to deliver messages!

Lake Titicaca & Islands

• Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world — over 3,800 meters above sea level!

• Some families live on floating islands made entirely from reeds! They even make their houses and boats out of them.

• The Uros Islands have to be rebuilt constantly — the reeds rot underneath and new layers are added on top every week!

Amazon Wonders

• The Amazon rainforest is home to over 2.5 million insect species — but don’t worry, most won’t bother you!

• The Amazon is home to the world’s loudest animal — the howler monkey, which can be heard from 3 miles away!

• Some monkeys are smaller than a banana — like the pygmy marmoset!

Our Social Commitment

At Cusco Native, we believe that travel should benefit everyone — especially the communities who welcome us with open arms.

We collaborate with local communities like those in Kinsacocha, where we host special events such as Christmas celebrations. These initiatives help preserve cultural heritage and support local economies. By working directly with small businesses and cooperatives, we ensure fair wages and promote sustainable practices. Our goal is to share the beauty of Peru while fostering mutual respect, cultural exchange, and long-lasting relationships with the communities we engage with.

Family Travel FAQ's

We get it — traveling as a family takes planning, especially in a new country. That’s why we’ve put together answers to the most common questions parents ask us — from health and safety to visas, food, and more. With Cusco Native, you’re in good hands every step of the way.

Yes! Peru is very family-friendly, and we take extra care to ensure safe transportation, clean accommodations, and well-paced itineraries. Our local team is always nearby to assist if needed, and we prioritize comfort, health, and safety at every step.

They can — and many love it! We recommend Amazon lodges that are family-friendly, with clean facilities, mosquito protection, and easy trails. We always tailor Amazon experiences based on your child’s age and comfort level, and we’ll never suggest something that’s too intense for little ones.

Children follow the same entry rules as adults. Most travelers from the U.S., Canada, EU, Australia, and many other countries do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. A valid passport (with at least 6 months before expiration) is required for each child.

There are no mandatory vaccines to enter Peru. However, the Yellow Fever vaccine is recommended (not required) for jungle areas like the Amazon. We suggest consulting your pediatrician based on your itinerary. We’ll let you know if your route includes high-risk zones.

We’re here to help. If your child has any health concerns, let us know ahead of time so we can prepare accordingly.

Yes. If only one parent or guardian is traveling, some airlines or immigration officers may request a notarized letter of consent from the non-traveling parent. It’s not always asked for, but it’s better to have it just in case. A copy of the child’s birth certificate can also be helpful.

Yes, as long as you take it slow. We always design itineraries that include acclimatization time, rest days, and shorter activity blocks in higher-altitude areas like Cusco or Puno. We also stay alert for signs of altitude sickness and adjust as needed.

Peru has delicious, fresh options that kids usually love — like grilled chicken, rice, pasta, fruits, fresh juices, and even familiar foods like pizza in most cities. We can request special meals, and we’ll help you navigate menus at every stop.

No vaccines are officially required to enter Peru, but certain recommended vaccines can help keep your family safe — especially if you're visiting the jungle or remote areas.

For children (and adults), the CDC and WHO recommend the following for travel to Peru:

• Routine childhood vaccines (MMR, DTP, polio, etc.) – Make sure these are up to date.

• Hepatitis A – Transmitted through food or water; common in all regions.

• Typhoid – Recommended if you're traveling to smaller cities, rural areas, or trying street food.

• Yellow Fever – Especially recommended (and sometimes required) for trips to the Amazon region (like Manu or Tambopata). It’s required if you're entering Peru from a country with yellow fever risk.

We always recommend checking with your child’s pediatrician or a travel health clinic before your trip. If your itinerary includes jungle destinations, we can help you understand exactly what’s needed.
