Our first destination is the charming district of Ollantaytambo, a historic site that served as a strategic military, religious, and agricultural center for the Incas. The journey sets the stage for a day filled with exploration and discovery.nnUpon arrival in Ollantaytambo, we take a moment to enjoy a breakfast, fueling up for the adventure ahead. The town itself is a living testament to Inca urban planning, featuring well-preserved cobblestone streets and a complex irrigation system that showcases the ingenuity of ancient engineering.nnOur next leg of the journey takes us on a challenging yet rewarding uphill hike to the Cachicata quarry. This quarry, nestled in the rugged mountains, was a vital source of andesite stones used in the construction of Ollantaytambo's temples and palaces. Explore the intricacies of the site, from the grandeur of the quarry to the fascinating chullpas (ancient tombs) and the innovative stone transport ramps.
As we traverse this historical landscape, a break is scheduled for a box lunch amidst the breathtaking surroundings of the Sacred Valley. This provides an opportunity to absorb the rich history and natural beauty that envelops the Cachicata quarry.nnContinuing our journey, we venture on a trek to the Puerta del Sol (Inti Punku), an elevated viewpoint that offers a sweeping panoramic spectacle of the Sacred Valley and the towering Nevado Veronica. This spot is not merely a vantage point; it's a rendezvous with the mystical and enchanting aura that pervades this special region.nnThe descent back to the Cachicata community unfolds a different perspective, allowing us to appreciate the landscapes from a new angle. Our transport awaits at the community, ready to transport us back to Ollantaytambo. Our return journey to Cusco caps off the day's adventures, concluding with a drop-off at your hotel.
