Our adventure starts at 4 am with a hotel pickup, heading to Checacupe in about two hours to see its historic Inca, colonial, and republican bridges. The town also has a significant church and is known for being the place where Tupac Amaru II suffered a defeat in his valiant fight for independence. After a scenic 90-minute drive,we arrive in Palccoyo (4,900 m / 16,076 ft) and begin our hike, passing grazing alpacas and friendly locals with their photogenic companions along the trail.
At the Palccoyo viewpoint, take in breathtaking views of the colorful mountains and the majestic Ausangate peak (6,372 m / 20,900 ft) looming in the distance, with plenty of time to enjoy the stunning scenery. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Red Valley, whose sediments form the Blood River. Then we’ll visit the nearby rock forest for amazing photo locations, then enjoy an open-air meal with mountain views before heading back to your hotel in Cusco.
